A practical buying guide
Waypoint Field desk brings area context, source reports and journey preparation into one review. Choose a country or coordinates, inspect what changed, review an optional forecast and prepare the next journey. Keep the source dates, human approval and the limits of any downloaded briefing explicit.
A fictional NGO coordinator is preparing tomorrow's project visit. An area report is older than the planned departure, a journey still needs an approval check and a local map layer provides context. The coordinator must identify what to verify, prepare a dated briefing and name the person making the travel decision.
Field desk supports preparation and review. It does not provide a live camera feed, comprehensive incident coverage or guaranteed emergency response. Forecasts and dated imagery do not replace official warnings. Prepare downloads online, keep the export date visible and follow the organisation's travel approval and communication procedures.
No. A printable area briefing and exported public reports are dated snapshots. Prepare them while connected, retain the source and observation dates and review fresh information before departure. A saved file does not receive later feed updates.
No. Field desk can request a 48-hour MET Norway forecast for a location, with issue times and units for temperature, wind and rainfall. A forecast is a model. Review official warnings and the organisation's own travel approval process separately.
No. NASA MODIS Terra or Aqua imagery uses a selected observation date and can contain clouds, coverage gaps and processing delays. A WGS84 GeoJSON layer adds points, routes or areas to the open map; it is not uploaded or saved. Neither establishes a person's or vehicle's current location.
The public-report export and printable area briefing exclude staff and vehicle locations. Inspect the exported file and source dates before sharing. Keep separate operational records and the organisation's access and privacy procedures outside a public-context briefing.
