A BUYING GUIDE FROM VCMP

Solo POS vs Square: compare the complete counter setup

Compare Solo POS and Square as complete operating setups: software, devices, payment account and support. Solo POS's public scope covers counter orders, stock, daily sales and profit-and-loss reporting. Square publishes POS, payment and hardware options. Confirm each supplier's availability for your country and exact business setup before comparing prices.

When should you consider each route?

Solo POS by VCMP

Solo POS is worth evaluating when you want a tablet-based counter workflow and clear daily trading information. Bring a sale, return, stock update and end-of-day reconciliation to the demonstration. If you also need appointments, evaluate Solo and the proposed connection separately.

Square POS

Square is a relevant comparison for businesses evaluating its published POS and payment ecosystem. Its support documentation lists the countries in which it processes cards and imposes country-specific hardware conditions. A POS application and a locally available payment service are separate checks.

One rehearsal to compare both proposals

  1. Use fictional products and the exact device list from the proposed installation.
  2. Complete cash and card examples, including a declined card and a receipt reprint.
  3. Rehearse the supplier-supported response to a connection interruption; do not assume every offline payment is available.
  4. Compare the sales, return and stock totals with the expected figures at close of day.
  5. Record who supports the application, printer, terminal and network, plus all recurring and one-off charges.

These are fictional buying scenarios, not customer results or a claim that every demonstrated requirement is already included.

What changes by market?

Put the actual country in the brief. These are practical checks to confirm, not claims of local availability or offices in these countries.

UK

Bring your actual tablet, printer and payment-terminal models to the compatibility discussion. Agree what happens when a card payment is declined or the connection drops.

USA

Evaluate the till using the store's real tax, receipt and tipping requirements. Ask the supplier to show the configured result; do not infer coverage from a USD label.

UAE

Check the selected payment provider, receipt language and actual hardware in the UAE. A provider's availability elsewhere is not evidence that the local account can be activated.

Lebanon

Separate the sale currency, receipt currency and settlement arrangement in the proposal. Test the supported connectivity fallback and reconciliation using fictional transactions.

Qatar

Ask for a Qatar-specific proposal covering the payment account, tablet and printer supply, receipt requirements and support ownership. Rehearse a refund as well as a successful sale.

Oman

For branches in Muscat and other locations, assign who installs and reconnects each device. Confirm the local payment arrangement and the support route before a pilot starts.

Questions before the decision

Can the same payment setup be used in all six regions?

Do not assume so. Payment-account availability, hardware approval and commercial terms vary. Obtain country-specific confirmation for the USA, UAE, Lebanon, Qatar, UK or Oman, even if the software can be demonstrated remotely.

Does a low subscription mean a lower overall cost?

Not necessarily. Include transaction percentages, per-transaction fees, site licences, hardware, migration and support. Compare the same workload and contract period using current written quotes.
