A BUYING GUIDE FROM VCMP

Website builder, Solo or bespoke website: choose the right route

Choose the route by the work the website must do and who will maintain it. A self-service builder suits a team prepared to assemble and manage its site. Solo combines a business website with bookings and administration. StartSimple scopes bespoke design and development when the brand, customer journey or connections require a custom project.

When should you consider each route?

StartSimple / Solo

Discuss StartSimple when the brief needs a distinctive design, several customer journeys or specifically scoped connections. Evaluate Solo when its established website, appointments, customer records, quotes and invoices fit the daily workflow. These are different offers with different commercial arrangements.

Self-service website builder

A builder such as Wix offers templates, editing tools and business features. It can suit a team that wants to choose the design and maintain the site itself. Include the time to write, translate, configure and test it; a subscription alone does not complete those tasks.

One rehearsal to compare both proposals

  1. Write one primary customer goal: enquire, book a service, request a venue event or buy a product.
  2. Map the pages, fields, recipient and confirmation needed to complete that goal on a phone.
  3. Identify content that must differ by language or actual service location, and assign an editor.
  4. List current URLs, forms and booking links that a replacement site must retain or redirect.
  5. Ask each route to demonstrate the same journey and explain ownership, maintenance and recurring charges.

These are fictional buying scenarios, not customer results or a claim that every demonstrated requirement is already included.

What changes by market?

Put the actual country in the brief. These are practical checks to confirm, not claims of local availability or offices in these countries.

UK

A Reading service business might need enquiries; a national operator might need branch selection. Specify the actual service area, the enquiry recipient and existing URLs to retain.

USA

For a multi-state service brand, define which locations you genuinely serve and where each enquiry goes. Test phone formats, time zones and booking handover with a representative branch.

UAE

A Dubai or Abu Dhabi venue brief should show the English/Arabic journey, right-to-left mobile navigation and who approves translated menus. Confirm how branch and event enquiries reach the right team.

Lebanon

A Beirut hospitality or services site may need Arabic, English and French content. Name the editor for each language, agree lightweight mobile media and test enquiry delivery under the expected connection conditions.

Qatar

For a Doha venue, distinguish general enquiries from private-event briefs. Agree the Arabic/English content, organiser details and who receives and confirms each request.

Oman

A business serving Muscat and other locations needs accurate location pages and an achievable content-update process. Rehearse a local supervisor changing hours and checking an enquiry on mobile.

Questions before the decision

Is a bespoke website included with Solo or Encore?

Do not assume it is. Solo has its own website and booking product scope. Encore addresses venue bookings. A bespoke StartSimple build and any connection to those products are separately scoped and quoted.

Can the project target both English and Arabic customers?

Yes, include that requirement in the website brief. Agree translation responsibility, right-to-left layouts, language-specific URLs and the complete enquiry or booking journey. Confirm what the proposal includes before launch.
